BIOGRAPHY
Maja Mirković, a freelance costume designer whose work has been seen in 129 theatre performances in professional theatres across Europe, 9 films, numerous classical and popular music concerts, commercials and videos, an artist with three solo and twenty-seven collective exhibitions in the country and abroad, is an author whose work has also been praised through the most prestigious theatre awards.
Maja Mirković was born on 14th February 1977 in Šabac, Serbia. She has an MA from University of Applied Arts and Design, Belgrade, Department of Costume Design, Atelier for Theatre Costume in 2001 and Magister Degree in the Interdisciplinary Studies from Belgrade University of Arts, Scenic Design with research project “Cultural construction of gender through clothing – phenomenon Belgrade” in 2013.
Maja is a member of Serbian Association of Artists of Applied Arts and Design since 2004 and was a president of the Section for Costume and Set Design in 2010.
Maja’s research paper “On collaboration” dealing with the relation between costume design and dramaturgy, was published by a Nordic literary magazine “Kritiker” (December 2017). Her paper “On possibilities and strategies of exhibiting visual aspect of stage-based art outside the realm of performance” (stemmed from her experience gained through curatorial practice in Prague Quadrennial 2019), was published in the Serbian Magazine for Theatre Art “Scena” (October-December 2019). Her poems can be found in an Anthology of Modern Poetry by DEVE publishing house (“Tracing Gender Purpose of Engagement” (2006) and “24/7 Of Love” (2007).
Being from 2001 to 2010, a regular correspondent of the Walking Theory performing arts magazine, Maja’s texts on theory and practice of performing arts were also published in numerous magazines and exhibition catalogues.
As a co-author of the site-specific project “SD-02: site Krstac” (“Eco-Logic”, Serbia and Montenegro), Maja participated in the 2004 Venice Biennial of Architecture “Metamorph”.
In 2019, Maja Mirković together with Bojan Djordjev and Sinisa Ilić, curated Serbian exhibition in Prague Quadrennial, one of the most relevant international manifestations in the world dedicated to Scene design.
